so im stuck here, I am to select a notebook computer that is really sweet and powerful, with vista business :(, and possibly purchase 20 more.
In looking for the Cool new laptop for myself i have hit a wall... Everything looks the same, nothing really amazes me anymore in the notebook computer world.
I saw ONE, yes count it ONE laptop i actually liked and really was thinking i was ready to purchase it, even had the VP of Operations reaching for his wallet to get the company card for me... but... Doesnt have an integrated Wireless WAN adapter. The one i am talking about is the Alienware Area 51 M15x. This one is sleek, cool, has powa, features up the ass, A FREAKIN LIT KEYBOARD!!! I have been wanting a laptop to come with lit keys for a long time for typing at night and such.
So back to the bland...
I have looked at Sony, Dell, HP, Toshiba, Lenovo, IBM, Panasonic, and i have not found a single one that really peaks its head out and says "hi, look at me!"
Anyone have any suggestions or cool laptops that dont just blend into the masses... well lemme rephrase that, they can blend (being that this is a work computer) but fucking blend with some style or crazy feature driven standoutidness.... AND I WILL NEVER OWN A MAC NOR WILL I PURCHASE ONE FOR THE COMPANY I WORK FOR.

I bought a Compaq laptop last summer and its been great to me except for the fact I miss XP (it came with Vista Premium).

I run a Dell Inspiron E1505 and it's been great. I like the new Dell sytems for laptops, but I just can't bring myself to buy anything new that comes with Vista. I know Dell with change a few of their Vista systems out for XP yet, so maybe you want to make a few calls on the Alienware to see if you can get anything custom ordered up.

Why do you need a "cool" laptop? Id go with a Lenova if I had to choose. They build great machines and would be my first choice. Compaq, Dell, and HP are prolly my next choices.

Lenova are what we have for all our work laptops. Ours are very slim and lightweight which is great for traveling. Now that Toshiba has boughten us out, we will be switching over to them once our leases are up.

that alienware has draft n wireless... Internal Intel® Wireless 4965 a/b/g/Draft-N Mini-Card not sure what the difference is and that computer looks baller to!

I personally run a inspiron 1520 with 2.2 ghz etc so its pretty well set up and like it except for the fact that vista slows it WAY the fuck down... my old inspiron 1500 with 1 gb of ram, xp, and a 1.6 ghz is usually faster, except for her battery life, or when running on battery only..... maybe more ram and a better processor can take care of that though?

No Dell or Acer laptops, for biz use they do not stack up. IBM or Compaq are the way to go IMHO, look at video card if its basic onboard setup or a nvidia add-on card w/ more horsepower and its own memory. Look at the various trackpad features, etc.

I know this is totally out of the question, but Apple's Macbook Pro is probably the nicest laptop on the market. Backlit keys w/ autodimmer, multi-touch trackpad, 15" or 17" widescreen, 250gb hdd, like 8Gb of ram or something silly, and they are just damn solid.

See if you can find some higher-end Compaq or IBMs that fit your requirements.

When i say WAN card built in, i mean built in EVDO or other cell network cards. Every computer pretty much comes with wireless now, but getting the WWAN card built in is something different.
I messaged Alienware and am waiting on a reply from them.
The things i love about the alienware:
Lit Keyboard
Great Performance
Intel Extreme processor
4 gigs of RAM
Sleek lines and not too outrageous.
