There is what happens. Go to play COD4 online and when I select team deathmatch for instance it thinks for a second and then it shows me, what map and say "waiting for 5 more players" and just sits there. That happens all the time.
Now if I go into split screen and play by myself for a min or 2 and then I try playing online again then it works like it should. That works about 80% of the time.
Once it works once then It will work until I shut the PS3 down.
I tried the port opening and setting the IP address. But to tell you the truth I dont really know what Im doing. My mom works at home sometimes so we had to get a static IP address. Does anyone have any ideas? It sucks because all I want to do is play that damn game!

I already answered this for you in the Call of Duty 4 thread:
It was doing that for me. You have to open a 7 ports on your router. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare uses ports 3658, 3478, 3074, 3075 (UDP) and ports 80, 443, 5223 (TCP). Once I opened those ports it worked perfect, no problems connecting to games or anything. Set your PS3 to a static ip, then forward those ports to the ip address.
If you dont know how to forward ports on your router, go to portforward.com and go to your router, then select the ps3 or the game and it will show you how.,

Yah thanks for that, but I already did that and it still has problems. Im not 100% sure how to set a static IP address on the PS3 but I went into setup and did the custom network and set the IP address manually(is that setting it as a static IP?).
After I did all that it worked perfect, the first time but never again.

This is how you configure PS3 manually:
http://foggaming.com/modules.php?name=PS3&file=ps3_ip
Double check your DNS servers too, sketch DNS servers can cause problems. Other than that it should be pretty simple, and I guess like tpunx says you need to open up some ports on your router for PS3 online gaming.

Played it earlier today with no problems. Using a crappy Dlink DIR-615 router with Mediacom cable and only had to disable UPnP on my router for my PS3 to use it.

To set the ps3 you simply use the network wizard where you set up your internet connection, and use the Advanced setup, then when it asks if you would like to set up your ip address manually chose yes.
Change the settings to something like 192.168.x.150 Subnet 255.255.255.255 gateway (ip address of router) DNS (ip of router.) The x is dependent on what router it is, and what network you have it set up as.
Then you have to forward the ports on the router to point to the ps3 static ip address.
If you really need more help, lemme know and maybe tonight we can do a remote desktop and ill config it for you.

I set the PS3 to static a few days ago. this is what I have for the info
IP address: 192.168.1.110
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default router: 192.168.1.1
Primary DNS: 10.1.10.1
Secondary DNS: 10.1.10.1
And this is the screenshot of my portforwarding.

Anything out of the ordinary? or other info needed?
And The NATtype is type 3, which is says that online play maybe limited or something. How can I change that?
Thanks for your help guys

PSN4 shows 3478-3479 change that to 3478-3478.
Also why do you have the Primary and secondary dns to 10.1.10.1. On the PS3 primary and secondary should be set to 192.168.1.1
Also where it says Protocol, change PSN1, PSN2 and PSN3 to TCP, and the remaining ones to UDP. just to be sure.

On my computer it said the DNS was 10.1.10.1. I was told that was the number to use.

Alright, I changed the DNS to 192.168.1.1 and now the UPnP is "available" before it said "unavailable". But I went to play and the online still didnt work until I played split screen for a min by myself.
And I also changed all that stuff you just said to change.
