I am looking to buy an Apexi n1 on my eclipse gs. No boost at the time now. Running N/A. Would a 2.5 pipe, 4.5 tip work? Is there any difference between the sound of a 3.0 pipe and 2.5 pipe exhaust?

A 3" pipe will be a lot louder and more annoying on a N/A DSM. Hell, even a 2.5" is too big.

Do you plan on running a turbo in the future? If not then 3" is way too much overkill.
I thought the N1 was a turbo exhaust. Isn't it possible to lose power on N/A if it's too big?

A nice 2.25 inch mandrel bend exhaust would probably be best for that car.

Yeah, you can. Backpressure is more important on N/A cars, and if you put an exhaust on it that's too free flowing, you'll lose ome backpressure and some hp along with it.

BAH! Humbug. If you lose power, it will be in the lower rpms, maybe midrange, but you should gain power up top.
2.5 is plenty big.

^^ Are you sure about that? I don't know if it's the same, but I had a little 50cc pocketbike. When I took the exhaust off, I gained a little low in the rpms, but lost alot up top. Put the exhaust back on, and got my top end back.

smaller diameter exhausts will yield more torque down low on N /A cars, but kill it and power up top.

If that was a 2 cycle engine (which I bet it was), they actually do benefit from backpressure, I believe. I know what you are talking about though, my friend's 80cc scooter exhaust broke off at the flange once and we re-welded it and it was faster. Took it off and saw some bumps of metal from welding on the inside of the pipe. The turbulence those bumps caused probably added backpressure and thus, a little more power.
