I think you are probably right that it is the gyro, my dad's king did that. Sounds like a good first flight if it came down in one piece!

I put up a picture of the first flight on my myspace page if anyone is interested.

Well supposed to Rain all day tomorrow in Statesboro, GA and be a high of 39. But the guys said they are still going. Good news is it'll be clear for the night flying. But on my return trip to Camden it's supposed to snow again.
But I'm still going to head down there and hope I can get someone to help me with the final touch's. I want to get ride of the tail wag, and I want to make sure I get it set up properly for 3D aerobatics, I don't believe my pitch curves are correct but, until I get the tail wage situated I can't turn the head speed back up to try to go inverted to see where I'm at. (ie: I don't have a pitch gauge otherwise I'd do it from my bench at home)
Felt good to be flying again.

Well Just got back from the Fun Fly in Statesboro, GA. - and I'm really! glad I went.
Not sure if the flying guys know who Bobby Watts is? But met him while I was there and lucky for me it rained all day Saturday so everyone was looking for something to do. So Bobby decided to go to town on my Helicopter, checking the set up, etc. Was awesome hanging out with him. And as it turns out he's going to the University of South Carolina and lives less then 30 minutes from me, and said anytime I want to fly with him to give him a call.
Pretty bad ass having Miniature Aircrafts #1 pilot living near me. Today the weather cleared up and holy crap has the flying skills and technology improved since I was flying. I'm pretty sure I was the only NON-SPONSORED pilot there, it was awesome, because of the weather there was only maybe 25 pilots total compared to the usual 100-150. So we were all hanging out putting back a few beers, and mix that with the weather clearing up to just misting at night. Turned into a sweet display of night flying and "Crash's" everyone was egging each other on was sweet.

Hi Brian-

Awesome that you're getting back into it. I was flying a fixed pitched Blade Cx2 all summer just to get used to heli flight. I went the electric route. I became an expert at that and pushed it beyond its capabilities for the most part since its a coaxial heli. I just ordered a Esky Belt CP last week. It's basically the same size as a t-rex 450 SE. It fully extreme 3D capable. Comes standard with a 3900Kv brushless motor. The only upgrade really need is to replace the stock gyro with a Heading hold one.

You can get all the fancy carbon fiber upgrades, CNC aluminum head & tail upgrades, etc.. for this also. I wanted to upgrade to a 3D heli that was on the cheaper side. I knew if I spend big buck$ on a t-trex 450 or 600 that it would be just a hovercraft for me since it's so expensive to replace parts.

Do you know of a good flight simulator that can be used to learn all the inverted stuff, loops, rolls, etc..??

I watched the Trex450 this weekend for the first time and HOLY CRAP can they fly. I had no idea such a small heli was that menuverable. I also got to see all the new prototype heli's, the one Miniature Aircraft is coming out with in a month, and some new company (can't remember the name) but the one I can't remember was about twice as menuverable as all the others but he was running 3000rpms on the head instead of the usual 2200rpms the rest of them were flying . It flipped and rolled so fast I was watching people loss there timing because of it.

Electrics especially the Trex450 seem to the be the most popular thing right now, primarily because parts are so cheap. I watched guys just pile them in time and time again from trying things I wouldn't even dream about with my 90 and with in an hour were back up and flying.

Honestly when Min Air comes out with there's I'll probably pick one up. I wouldn't feel so bad crashing one of those vs. Crashing my Fury.

As for simulators the Real Flight is probably the best one, however the New 4.0 has radio problems the Gimbles go out real quick from what I was told this past weekend. But if you can get the 3.5 version you're good to go.

Real Flight has always been the best simulators since day one.

Were do you live again? It's says Wisconsin under your name but I thought you were in florida or something? - I'm heading to Alabama in March for a heli event. You should join HeliFreak.com, or RCUNIVERSE.com I'm still running the same screen name as I do here. Maybe I'll see some of you guys at an event this year. I plan to hit up the IRCHA Event in Indiana also.

Dam Brian-- Been that long hah?? :)

I bought an old GST tranny from you one time, did a shaved/polished valve cover for you about year ago and also came to your place that time to get the specs off your Magnus intake, even though I just ended up buying one.

Anyway...Yes, i'm from the middle of Wisconsin. Indeed the trex 450's are incredible. My blade span on the Belt CP that I got is 680mm which I think is the same as the 450. There is also a trex 600 which is probably about the same size as a Raptor 90. The trex 450SE is mostly carbon fiber frame.

Nobody around here flies so it's pretty much just me in the hobby. So it sucks I don't have anyone to learn from. I want to get that simulator so i can practice 3d stuff and not have to do it with mine. I know I will be going thru plenty of blades

I'm a big fan of RCUniverse. I'm on the main helicopter forum alot and also the Esky helicopter sub forum of that.

It sure is alot of fun. Even my little BladeCX2, i've had up 75-100ft already. There's not much mass to it so it's almost impossible to fly on windy days.

What kind of transmitter are you using, like a DX6 or DX7?

That's right, I was thinking of "Viscious" who lives down south.

I got to see all the Trex models actually the electric and Glow this past weekend. Along with pretty much all the Miniature stuff including the new 50 electric Razor they are making.
Watched Bobby Pile it into the ground was awesome, Not to make fun of pretty much the top pilot flying right now but he didn't mount the gyro down well enough and it came loose, so no tail control, happened right in the middle of a piroflip at about 4 feet off the ground. It was up and running again in 40 minutes though.

Anyways I'm currently still flying Futaba's old 8UH (not even the super 8) but if I'm lucky by next week I'm looking to get a new Futaba 9Z radio with Synth RX/TX - ya I know it's not the FAAST system but Futaba is coming out with it and when it does I'll be buying the module pack for it.

I was shocked to see how many people were using the new Spectrum DX7 radio at the field almost everyone. I thought for being so cheap they wouldn't be that good but everyone was using it, even bobby watts was using it, I think for his electric heli. He has the Futaba 14HZ ($2200 radio) for everything else.

Just thought I'd post up the video's of the Fun fly I was at last weekend. I'm pretty sure I was the only non sponsored pilot there. Anything that has Bobby Watts in the title is going to be the best flying for those that want to just watch the best stuff.

The forums is backwards the begining of the thread is the very last page.

Bobby Watts Nitro Razor (although I haven't watched the video this is probably the best flying, he pretty much just tried to see if he could destroy this prototype Heli From Min Air by putting it through the toughest menuvers)

Bobby Watts and Bert Krammer Tandem Flight - If this is anything like the last video I saw of Bobby flying with someone else it will be crazy (this took place on Friday and I didn't get there till sat)
