My friend got in a wreck where they hit the front drivers side and now they said they had to replace the seat belts? I dunno just curious if thats somthing that needs to be done after a crash. It was 06 G6. ok thanks guys
They shouldn't need to unless they got damaged in the crash somehow.

in any crash you will want to replace the seat belts because they will streach just like they are made to.

New cars have Pretensioners in the seat belts. It is a charge that goes off in the event of a crash that recoils the belts so the belt snugs up against you. If the crash deployed them then they will need to be replaced. Some pretensioners are in the seat belt(in the part that turns as you pull on it) and others are in the actaul latch and snugs that down in the event of a crash. So now days fixing up crashed cars is a bit harder because you not only have to replace the bags but also the pretensioners and also the module too usually.

Yeah, that place was probably talking about the pretensioners, not the belts themselves.

the pretensioners lock up the belts so they can't retract back out. So you have to replace the belts themselves.

Not only would they replace them because of the pretensioners, but like Mark said, they are designed to strech just a little. If they aren't replaced and the car is in another accident the belts could cause more injury because they've already been streched.

Some smart cars will only deploy them if there is a passanger but since you said it was a GM they probably dont have that and they both deployed.
