I took apart my head this past weekend to install some new valve springs, seals, and head studs. After I put everything back together, I looked at the cam journals. Only the exhaust side looked like they were pitting. And it was only half of the journal, but on every one. You can feel the difference between the smooth and pitted areas. I'm wondering why it looks pitted instead of scored, like a foreign material entered from the oiling port. I looked at the cams that originally came with the head before it was built, and there were no signs of damage. The pics don't really help, but I attached them anyway.

Will this problem be an issue?

As long as there is no material sticking up, you will be fine. If there is, take some 1000 grit sand paper and lightly run it up and down, then go over it with some 2500 grit. Be sure to clean it all off afterwards.

It should be fine. Scratches help keep the oil in the journal.

Thanks a lot guys. I was starting to worry that I would need to take it all apart, again.
