To tell you all the truth, I haven't researched AEM EMS at all. On most venders that sell EMS, they state that it is only for manual transmission cars. Why is this? It should work with automatic transmissions, as the ECU has absolutely nothing to do with the TCU. Can someone explain?

I think that the ecu controls the tcu. It probably send info back and forth between the 2. I'm not an expert nor is this fact I'm just stating what I think.

You can control the Tranny with the AEM. If you can control DSM tranny I do not know.

as far as I can tell there is windows in the EMS that can control when your auto shifts, based on rpms, or pressure in the passages on the auto tranny. How, I don't know. Perhaps an external driver for the tranny or something. But, I don't see how the EMS couldn't control anything with our cars!

The ECU and TCU have one wire to talk to each other with. The TCU tells the ECU to reduce TQ (retards timing) when it's going to shift. That's the extent of the interface as I know it.

Is that all the wire does, could you just cut it, or is there more to it. I have an auto with a mt eprom ecu w/link. Im not goiing to, just interested

RTFM, transmission controls and capabilities are available in the aem manual.

The AEM is setup out of the box to control a Supra auto transmission, but that is mostly because the guy who designed the AEM EMS had an auto Supra. Tuning an auto transmission is usually harder than tuning a motor. Most of the auto DSM guys use a standalone box like the one IPT sells to manually shift the tranny instead. The stock TCU doesn't work so great on somewhat modded DSMs.

Yup. There were a number of people that said after you got a shift kit you could just cut the wire "cause the tranny could take it". I don't know if that's still a recommended mod or not.
