Tips to get out of muffler citation?

I just got a loud exhaust citation. Does anybody know how much is the fine?

On my Laser, I have essentially a downpipe then a turn down muffler, 3 inch, no cat. You can't see it unless you lay down on the ground. I never get shit from the cops for it. I just let off the gas if i saw one, being carefull not to put load on the engine.

Maybe it's a Winona thing, but I don't know how so many people get pulled over. I guess it would be a huge difference up in the twin cities.

Schedule an appt with a court hearing officer and tell him that you've ordered a much quieter exhaust system so it'll be fixed as soon as the new parts arrive. Or, throw a stock muffler on and snap a picture and bring that to court with you

Where you are has a lot of effect on how cops treat exhaust issues. I ran open O2 housing for a long time in the Cannon Falls hastings area. Not once did the several cops I passed even glance at me. They just don't care.

If the cop didn't test your exhaust with a decible meter the ticket will not hold up in court.

See if you can sweet talk somebody on this board into lending you their stock exhaust for when you fight it.

Exhaust noise is up to the officers discretion, a decible reading is not required in MN.


If I were you gstjoker I would just pay the ticket and be done with it. If you hadnt already missed the first court date I would have argued it but since you screwed up there I doubt they will give you much slack.
