I have a GM Maf with the MAF Translator. Is there any benefit with this compared to a 2G MAS? And how does the ECU see the MAF Translator, as basically a stock MAF? Unless the ECU is different, it can still only see a limited amount of airflow, right?

The GM MAF should be able to handle more HP before maxing out(most people will never max out a 2G MAS though) and is a little less restrictive. You can also place it after the BOV, which allows you to vent to atmosphere. You can do some AFC style tuning with the MAFT box, but if you have much more than basic setup, then you are usually better setting the MAFT up for stock injectors/zeroed out and then doing all the tuning in DSMLink or an EPROM chip.

From the instructions to the MAF-T
"The MAF Translator is a conversion interface to allow the use of late model GM Mass AirFlow (MAF) sensors on Mitsubishi DSM (Eclipse,Talon,Laser) vehicles. The late model GM MAF sensors offer lower intake restriction than stock which boosts horsepower and improves turbo response. Inside the Translator there are several user adjustments which permits tuning of the airflow signal to the ECU (Engine Control Unit). Increasing or decreasing the airflow signal sent to the ECU will cause the ECU to deliver more or less fuel to the engine. The controls in the Translator allow adjustments under different operating conditions (idle, cruise, boost) to allow the tuner to tune for optimum horsepower. The Translator also has a Fuel Cut Limiter to prevent the ECU from cutting off fuel delivery at high boost, and an AUX adjustment for controlling fuel differently when a trigger wire is energized (to compensate for other fueling equipment such as N2O, Propane, or Alcohol injection)"

I think the 2g MAS does a better job of metering airflow, but that is my opinion there are others that are going to argue with me. However the 2g mas is limited by how much air it can flow. The GM can see more air

The maft as stated above can be tuned to whatever injectors which is good if you have no other way of tuning the system.

how does the ECU see the MAF Translator, as basically a stock MAF?

Yes. it just takes the input of how much air is going into the system from the MAF-T

Unless the ECU is different, it can still only see a limited amount of airflow, right?

yes however the maft can alter the input of how much air the ECU sees
for example if you are running 550 instead of 450 injectors the computer will cut the airflow reading from 100% to see 80% of what it is actually there

You can vent you bov with the MAF-t, and since that is the coolest shit ever, there is the benefit.

Also you can compensate for way to large of injectors for your setup instead of buying the right size. You can tune with them, but it is not straight foreward as the directions would have you believe.

I would take the 2g MAS over the MAFT any day.

You also get to deal with a MAF that in no way flows similar to a stock one from idle to high boost, even though they claim to emulate stock ones. You might have to add a bunch of fuel at idle, then remove a bunch at cruise, then be fine at 0psi, and then way to rich at 18psi and then much different at 24psi. While a stock 2G MAS would handle all of those situations fine.

A 2g mas is before the BOV. With the MAFT you can mount it before or after. If you mount it after you can vent your BOV and make that awesome sound everytime let off the throttle.
