CMP Camshaft position Question

I was reading my book trying to figure out my no spark issues and I found this about the CMP which I assume is the same as what everyone calls the CAS.

from chilton:

"The computer uses the CMP sensor to determine the position of the no 1 cylander durring the power stroke. the signal is used to calculate fuel injection mode of operation.
if the cam signal is lost while engine is running, the fuel injection system will swithc to calculated fuel injection mode based on the last fuel injection pulse, and the engine will continue to run"

from my searches people were saying to check the CAS as a source of problem for not having spark but what I am reading seems to contradict what others are saying. anyone know anything about it?

Chilton's is full of crap, the car will not run without the CAS hooked up. I had mine pop off on my other car and it would die. Are you sure there is no spark? That would be the first thing to check if there isn't. What year car is it?

its a 98 spyder gs, I checked #3 and there was none but i never went through all of them. Im waiting on jumper cables now since my battery went dead.

I was refering to a 4g63, I am not sure what your car would do.

a faulty CRANKSHAFT position sensor (CKP) will definitly cause a no spark condition.
have you checked for power at the ignition coil?
