So final number dead was 13 I guess, but yesterday some interesting stuff was announced:
"Investigators have found 16 fractured gusset plates from the center section of the steel-deck truss bridge...."
"Basically, those 16 gusset plates were too thin to provide the margin of safety expected in a properly designed bridge such as this," Rosenker said. "These gusset plates were roughly half the thickness that would be required -- half an inch thick rather than an inch thick."

I heard them talking about that on the news this morning. I could have been mistaken, but I thought they said on channel 5 that all the gusset plates used on the entire bridge were too thin?

That's what I understood, but of them all there were 16 that were fractured.

It didn't help them at all that the construction company had way too much equipment on the bridge...Couple that with rush hour traffic and thin gussets and what do they expect to happen I guess? I wonder how long it takes the bridge builder to get sued now?

Not to mention it was the hottest week of the summer.

Not to mention how old it was. It had a pretty good run, what almost 50 years? Too bad it had to take out 13 people with it.

I still remember sitting at TGIFriday's in Roseville that evening, it was hot that day and I was drinking a mojito. Someone yelled across the bar that the 35W bridge collapsed and then we watched it all unfold on TV.
