View Full Version : Golfers up in this bitch.
I've been out the last couple weeks a few times with the Swanny and John and I know Matt D has newly sparked intrest in golfing again. But who else golfs? I know Jet does since he asked us to go a month or so back.
I'm pretty bad. Got a mean slice to the right and a magnet for the water. First shot each of my first times out was in the lake. I'm game for par 3 courses and driving ranges right now. Just replaced my old set of clubs (abused in the rock quarry many times) with a cheap set from Dicks Sporting Goods in Maple Grove. Full set w/ Hybrids and a nice new bag. Figure if I keep up with golf on a regular basis I can replace clubs as needed with better shit one by one once I figure out my game more. Till then, I'll beat up on my current shit.
That being said, I still have my rock quarry clubs for generally "tee off from anywhere" fun.
This is where we have been so far:

If I can get ahold of it, I can get good distance out of the irons. The teebox is my enemy currently, but I have been catching up on the greens ;).
2-putter ftw.

I absolutely love golf, played for 3 years in high school but have not been getting out as much as I'd like over these past few years.

Id try it but how can you guys play in these crazy temps!! I wouldnt want to be out on the course when its 90 out. Maybe when it gets cooler.
It's not that bad, you walking, and as long as you drink plenty of water, it's a good time and a good workout.

I love golf as well. I played through Junior and Senior High. I played for the school during the school year, and played in leagues at little 9 hole courses during summer break. But then I stopped for awhile towards the end of senior high. I love golfing now though when I have the time and money, even though I'm not as good as I was when I was younger. I don't do the walking thing though. I need a cart and a cooler, and then I'm set!

I used to play a lot. Was on the highschool team too. But, I haven't picked up a club in 2 years.
I did shoot pretty well considering that I was drunk off my ass!

I used to play as well. I sucked but it was still fun times. My buddy's aunt ran the course up here so we got to go around and give the carts a good washing and pick up the ones that died on the course.
Here's the link to Ortonvilles.

It's pretty clean. It's even smooth enough to ride 50 on at 3am with the sprinklers on, but be careful with the lips on the sand-traps, they're quite steep so make sure you're not W.O.T.....so I'm told. I really don't know who did that and I would personally never do that. I don't even know how to ride a 50. ;)
I hadn't been out in 4 years or so, but I have been out 4 times this year. I am surprised that I was still pretty decent. I got a new set of clubs since my last ones were trashed from just sitting and weren't that great anyway. I used to golf on the varsity team, but that was 15 years ago and have only golfed a few times in the last 10 years.
Are the green fees at that place really $36? We have went to Hidden Haven over in Cedar and it was really nice and not too bad of a price. There is also one just south of me in Minneapolis on Hwy 65, Columbia Manor. It is a 90 year old course and is pretty nice. It is by FAR the hilliest course I have played on, just nuts! Elevation changes of over 100' on the same hole! It is pretty cheap though too, it is owned by the city.
If you guys are going sometime, give me a ring and I will see if I can get out.
