Alright I got some aftermarket cam gears for a 2.0. How do I set them up for a 2.4l? I know with the stock ones you are saposed to remark the cam gears. Do I do that with aftermarket ones too? Anyone got a set of 2.4 gears that I could use to mark mine? Any help would be GREAT!

Just set them both up 1/2 tooth off.

It's a 4-4.5 deg difference on each cam timing depending on deck and head surfacing. And it could be retarded or advanced, depending on how you line them up. Do yourself a favor and degree them in correctly, then remark the indicator notch on the gear.

So one is 4-4.5 advanced and the other is 4-4.5retarded? which is which?

So I did a quick paint drawing. "A" is stock, and from what Im reading here it can be either "B" or "C", Is that correct?

The problem is that they can also line up like this. See the problem? It could line up 1/2 tooth in either direction. Your cam timing is still off. Trust me, 4-5 deg of cam timing can make a big difference in spool up, low and upper end power. Depending on the cams and engine, you could run the risk of valve to piston contact.

I didn't have time to degree mine in when I built it so I just bought some stock 2.4 Galant gears til I get around to doing it right, they're cheap.

OK, Im getting confused. I was told that all you would have to do is take your stock cam gears to someone with 2.4 cam gears and you line up the dowels and make a mark on the 2.0 cams where the 2.4 mark is at. Is this incorrect?

So if that is correct couldnt I take my aftermarket cams for a 2.0 to someone with cams from a 2.4 and match them up and make a mark on the aftermarket cams are where the mark is on the 2.4l cams?
