A few days ago, some friends and I (they're all veterans from Iraq BTW) noticed that the American flag was out in the rain, at night, with no lights on it. It was also torn to shit. They took it down, folded it properly, and gave it to the instructor. They talked to the coordinator about it, and he said a new flag and lights are not in there budget. He said they would try to get a flag in July.
they also receved a verbal repremand for there actions.
seriously, WTF!?

"they're"
Thats really pathetic your friends were repremanded for ceasing the breakage of federal law regarding the treatment of our flag. I hope they try going above that guy's head regarding this situation.

Reprimanded for upholding a federal law? See if they enjoy getting fined by the federal government.

I've seen plenty of american flags flying in the dark or tattered or both, what about the "OMG America FTW" flags that people slapped on their cars after 9/11/01?
I am picking up what the OP's friends are putting down, but hey, you guys talk about federal law like they've never been broken before, and I hope with all my heart that the feds have better things to do than police around for people without lights on their flags.
