Subject: Oil pump gear alignment marks on the wrong side of the gear from factory??
Hi guys-
I've installed the factory balance shaft back into the front cover. I've used the FSM and the vfaq even though the vfaq is for balance shaft elimination. When you put the balance shaft throught oil pump rear cover and put the gear on the oil pump shaft, the alignment faces down towards the cover. I had to take a marker and put a mark on the opposite side of the gear for when lining up the other gear to it. Again I had to put a mark on the other gear too because the alignment mark is facing down, towards the oil pump cover. Why did Mitsu do this? They should have put the alignment marks on the other side. I'm assuming I did it right because there is really no wrong way to do it. If you put the gear on the wrong way, the oil pump rear cover won't go all the way up against the front cover. The bolt goes inside the gear slightly. Did anyone else have to do this? I just want to hear from someone else before i bolt the front cover to the block.
Thanks for any quick help.
