I have a 98 GST with a 6 bolt motor, would a 1g transmission go into my car? It would be out of a 92-94 GST

I am thinking about doing the same thing. You have the six bolt so the mounts will bolt up to the block. You have to weld a bracket on the passanger for the tranny mount. The only thing Im not sure of are what you have to do as far as the sub frame goes and what axle setup or if you have to get custom ones made.

You should install the 2g tranny.

I sold a 1G FWD tranny to a 2G FWD (I suggested against it very strongly but he insisted), and I know he was dealing with a lot of headaches trying to get everything to work. I think he ended up just finding a 2G tranny.

You'll have to fabricate brackets to get the 1g motor mounts to the original 2g mounts. It's been done, but was a headache. The guy that did it claimed that his brackets were temporary. They looked terrible and didn't look like they were supporting much. I can imagine that he'll experience a few troubles down the road. Do it right. Your car was engineered that way.

thanks guys, a decent tranny popped up and well my original tranny has about 130k on it, so i'm thinking soon it'll go. The bastard grinds a lot.

I would go with the 2g tranny because its easier. If you are looking for a 2g tranny I have one.

I am picking up a 1g tranny in the next couple of weeks, i'm buying it because its a really good deal and mine has 130k on it. If anyone has swapped a 1g tranny into a 2g I would love to know exactly what I need to do, I know i'll figure it out when I pull the 2g tranny but I would like a heads up on what to expect. I know I have to weld the 1g brackets in a differenet place or something like that, so if anyone is or knows of a decent welder and good prices I would love to know. thanks again.. and the reason why a 1g is going in is because its TurboTrix and I need it for the power that I will be pushing.
