Ok so the car is a 1991 talon awd, it has less than 2k on the short block, and it has an electronic boost controller which im planning to get rid of for an mbc. The problem is no matter what setting its on it will only run about 6 psi in first and second and maxes at 12 psi in third ect. I checked for vacuum leaks with a smoke machine and took care of the few i had and it still wont boost any more. It has an idle surge also which may be related, havnt figure out why it surges, plans to buy a block off plate but, the question is could it be a bad turbo (14b with unknown mileage on it) or something else. Also this may be a dumb question, but could this problem be related to my lack of oil pressure??? any suggestions are helpful, thanks!

Boost leaks my friend. Also, if you have a lack of oil pressure, you might have a couple more problems than boost leaks at that...

If you need a boost leak tester, I have my homemade one I can run up to your work next time you are there. PM me if you need it.

i'm up in Blaine, north of the cities.. work downtown but I haven't gone into the office for last 2 months, just working from home now days ;p

The one i have is perfict for a 50 trim, for a 14b might be a bit too big and might pop off if you push it over 15 psi.. i had it on mine at around 25psi no problem.

Hrm, I say blame the electronic boost controller. Throw a MBC in there and see what happens.
