Timing Belt

There is a brand new timing belt on my car and for some reason it wants to ride a little over the edge of the cam gears on the inside toward the head. Everthing looks in line. The only thing is, I don't see on any of the pullies a gaurd or something to keep the belt in place. Any ideas?

The belt should stay centered just fine. How much is "a little?"
A loose tensioner or idler pully can cause the t-belt to walk. Also a bent cam gear can cause the t-belt to walk,but it won't just slip off on its own if that is what your worried about (or shouldn't unless something is broken).

The tensioner pulley has a ridge on it(on the inside), and the oil pump gear(on the out side) for belt alingment. So unless the tensioner bracket/assebly is not mounted properly or somthing is bent, as mentioned above, it should be fine.

I'm not worried about the belt coming off. I'm worried about the belt shavings I noticed in the bottom of the timing belt cover.

I would look for bent or misaligned parts. Also the timing cover can get in the way of things, ither accessory belts or timing. Does the motor have a front balance shaft?

Yea, the motor has a front balance shaft.
