Get the gasket. RTV doesn't make a very good internal lubricant.

I tried a cheap oil cap from autozone which didn't work. I was able to yank the gasket and cut it to size though. Works fine.

A brand new Mitsu oil cap with gasket is like $7-9.

Stupid things like this where one uses ghetto means to replace a 79cent part usually lead to another thread... "My car wont start, and its got all this gunk in the valves."

I was passing an auto parts store, it had been leaking. I figured the $4 was worth a shot. I buy right when possible, but I don't think a donut of rubber that fits just fine is going to cause me any major head aches.
*edit* Besides, I like my Hyundai oil cap :)
