Hey everyone! I'm from MN and I'm a youngster with a black '92 GSX. I've got lofty goals for my car, but only recently have I had money to mod it. So far I've done the free mods, K&N, boost gauge, and I'm running just the stock downpipe. I need an exhaust, but my tranny seems to be crapping out (crunchy 2nd). Do I get my Apex'i 3-3.3" turbo-back exhaust, throw in some BG syncroshift, and hope for the best? Or do I get a TRE double syncro 2nd, replace any worn parts, throw in some BG, and know my tranny will be somewhat more reliable? (PS... I rebuilt the tranny once when I bought the car. Stupid me drag raced a lil, used Amsoil synthetic gear lube w/ GL-5 rating (whoops, I didn't know!), and a bolt fell out of the shift lever bracket, all of which helped to screw up my tranny). Any suggestions for a clueless newb??? Thanks!

Full exhaust of your choice plus some good tranny fluid, preferably not BG Synchroshit.
If your tranny will still shift and you can live with it, I would go with exhaust. I have a decent amount done to my car and my 2nd gear is shit also. BTW, I hope you know that a tranny rebuild (TRE) will cost signifigantly more than exhaust.

From experience, if you plan on racing it in any form, you want a perfect tranny. Racing it otherwise will be pointless. If it grinds at high rpm into any gear. Rebuild a tranny. Having a local rebuild a tranny with TRE parts will only cost about 150% total more than a full turboback exhaust. With a shitty tranny that wouldn't go into 2nd gear at all, I raced it, ran 14.5's high 13's, etc... at 105-106 mph. With a mint tranny, I cut a second off of that and ran a 12.6 at 107.9. I'll let you decide what's more important to you.
Well i'm having QPR rebuilding my trany since my old one took a dump totaly... I will post my coments later after i test drive it and then also after puting some hard shifts on the trany... and we'll see how the TRE syncros work with Quaife ...
