Haven't been on here for a while, but my friend's recent problem with his 2g has tuned into a hung pain in the @ss.

When he brought the car to me, it has a bad oil leak, and it was running very hot. Turns out the oil leak was a transmission bolt (bellhousing to engine bolt, thought it would be weird for oil to leak from there, but it fixed it). After this, we addressed his coolant loss problem. I did a compression test and got 175 all across the board. Exhaust isn't white, so I figured it's definitely not a HG. So, we fill his coolant up with a 50/50 mix, but before we spray the motor/crossmembers down with degreaser and rinse it with water. We find that he's losing coolant from the driver's side, so I'm assuming it's a water pump leak?

Since I'm a Honda guy, I'm not very familiar with this car. Do 2g DSM's have a common hose or some type of gasket that can go bad and cause a leak like this? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Chances are very good that its his waterpump. I'd recomending doing a whole timing-belt job while you're at it since it all has to come off anyways. Generally waterpumps are replaced during timing-belt jobs, any idea how long ago that was?

Sup chris, you end up getting a DSM? Sell your del slow? haha.

I did a pretty thorough search on DSMtalk and between that and what you guys say, we're definitely going to do the water pump next weekend.

I'm going to pick up a service manual for the occasion, but are there any tips you guys can give me (since I've never really worked on a 4G63)? Do I have to pull the engine, or is there an easier way? I know it's cramped in there.
