What is the mark on the pulley supposed to line up with. There is the BTDC with the 10 under it and one mark to the left of it and 2 to the right. Where do I set it for base timing??

I am using a timing gun that can be adjusted on the gun. My question is when you shoot the timing with the wire connected to cylender 1, what do you put the timing to on the gun and what should the line on the pulley lign up with on the belt cover (which dash line?)

You can't use the adjustment on the timing gun on a DSM. Just set it at zero, otherwise it won't be right.

You need to ground the timing so that it runs 5 degree at every RPM. You should be able to tell when it is successfully grounded because it won't move around much when you increase the RPMs. Sometimes the ground plug doesn't though, or you just won't have one if you are trying to do it on a 2G. You can ground it on a 2G in DSMLink though.

If you can't ground it, you can also use a datalogger and try to monitor the timing advance that it says it is running on the datalogger and sync the timing to that.

There should be a mark with a 0 above it, that is obviously 0 degrees. 5 is the mark between 0 and 10. The mark after 10 is 15.

If you can't ground it, don't have DSMLink or a datalogger. Then it should be at 8 degrees with it idling at 750-800 RPMs with no fans on. If it idles higher than that, then you are screwed.

Where do I ground it to? The battery?? Do i unplug anything? So I set it inbetween the mark where it says BTDC and the 0 mark. (8 timing)

What year car? What motor is in the car?

It is the 95 talon with the 6 bolt swap and 1g coils.

I don't think you can ground it on a 2G without DSMLink. Do you have DSMLink or a generic OBD2 datalogger at least?

I thought it was supposed to be 5 degrees BTDC.

I've never been able to figure out grounding stuff on these cars (timing, idle, etc...)
