I still want to take off the front cover, curious to see if the oil pump is damaged.
also the oil filter needs an autopsy.

There isn't really much point. The engine was definitely oil starved. The filter will be full of crap and the oil pump bearings will probably be in rough shape.

Yeah, but why would that happen at the same time as the balance shaft belt snapped? And what's an oil pump bearing?

I guess technically it is the rear balance shaft bearing, but drives the oil pump. If the engine seizes I could see it snapping the BS belt.

Thats the thing thats wierd about this... The car overheated, the BS belt broke shreading half the timing belt and the bearing siezed to the crankshaft. All "at the same time"(not really at the same time but close).

JET explained himself, but there are bearings that the oil pump shaft rides on in the front case.

this was a pic of the top of the same piston that had the shredded bearing, the thing is that there was no broken valves, but you can clearly see that its a broken off valve that hit it.
another strange thing, none of the valves were visibly bent from this cylinder, its almost as if this piston was reused on a previous rebuild, could the car even run correctly (for a few thousand miles) if that were the case?
