I roll cheap. Palm M100 ($15 off ebay), ghetto cable($15), and freeware!

I always used the Pocketlogger software which costs money, but was well worth it and worked great. I tried some of those share/freeware programs and never like them.

Monitor various engine parameters (ie knock, engine codes, O2 voltage, rpm, etc.) You can also do small tests, like shut off an injector, turn on your fuel pump and various solonoids.

Can't monitor knock on a 2G. (pretty sure of that anyway)

The pinging sound you can't hear in your motor.
