Being in the red doesn't matter much, if you aren't under high load and the car still manages to run. When you are too lean at low load the car just bucks or dies, it doesn't blow up. Under boost load, even well into the green is potentially very dangerous on a turbo DSM.

sorry, I wasnt specific enough I guess. In the red under load. Also, "well into green" on a narrowband, like josh said, doesnt mean much. If its pegged on green it might tell you something, but again, a safety device, you should definitely use a wideband to tune your car first anyway. But yes, your a/f at full boost or WOT should definitely be in the green.

The scenarios I would say a narrowband helps in are:

-red all the time, even under load
-green all the time.
that's about it.

Red all the time = gauge broke, wired wrong or bad O2
Green all the time = gauge broke, wired wrong or bad O2 :)

lol, very possible, but not always true. I had green all the time once, turns out my fuel pressure was thru the roof. it saved me that time. I haven't had red all the time happen, but it was red under some load once, however I wouldnt have needed the gauge because like you said before it was bucking like crazy :)
