Most astronomers are freelancers. Very few paid scientists actually discover anything.
For what it's worth Pluto has been referred to as a planet for 76 years since its discovery in 1930, so it will be a bit hard to swallow for some people. Though it's hardly bigger than a large asteroid, it does have three known satellites, or moons.
Personally, I still see it as a regular planet. UB313, which is beyond Pluto but still orbits the Sun, is larger than Pluto yet is now classified as a dwarf planet... This shit just doesn't make any sense to me. UB313 has a moon as well.

I was kinda surprised at the reasoning being that it's orbit crosses the orbit of Neptune, but hey, that's why 200 nerds sat around and fought over it for a while, so we wouldn't have to. :p

Well, whatever they decide, I'll stand by it. I love things having to do with space. Which is why I am planning on building a spaceship. I don't know when... but I will.
