I had a science teacher in high school that did exactly that. Desert Storm was starting and he shot himself in the foot so he wouldn't have to go. He was a fighter pilot too.

Yeah, I was speaking from prior knowledge, my uncle was in Vietnam towards the end when it started getting even shittier, and he knew at least half a dozen dudes who had "accidents" or "went crazy" just to get out. Unfortunately he knew even more people who were legitimately hurt, or actually did go crazy.

I think I'm in the clear. I should fall into that exempt category of people who have 1 year or less left in the IRR. I have 11 months left. Plus my job isn't any 0??? MOS number which it seems they are recalling for mainly. And I was already in an overfilled and dying MOS anyway. But my cousin, he's not so lucky. I hope he doesn't get called back.
