Does the 1g awd front sway bar need any improvement? I see you can get a complete replacement from RM. I was thinking of getting their front and rear sway bar kit, and wondering if a new front one is even needed.

Many people would agree that the front doesn't need any improvement. I actually thought that the RRE site it said this.

I just checked, they do say it is braced well from factory.

Braced well and having a stiff enough front antisway bar are two totally different things. Basically, installing just a rear bar will be a big improvment, but if you can afford to do both the results will be that much better. Swaybars really improve the handling of DSM's, definitely one of my favorite mods I ever did.

If you plan on doing any sort of racing with the car that involves turning I would suggest at least upgrading the rear sway bar. Given the nature of AWD these cars always exhibit understeer. Stiffening up ther rear suspension with a bigger sway bar will help combat that.

Yes, do the rear sway bar, but the front is good from the factory. Suspension Techniques is supposed to be slightly better than RM for a 1g, 2g is opposite.

Suspension Techniques makes a good bar for the 1G's, thats what I used.

I'm buying the suspension techniques sway bar kit from summit, along with the ingalls rear camber kit.
