Hey everybody, so about two days ago my car started making these fucked up putt putt putt noises like mini back fires starting at about 1500 rpms lasting till about 2500, and then it'd stop above that. I originally thought it was becuase my intake was a bit loose (the silicone connectors and such), so I bought new connectors, clamped the hell out of those, new vaccum tube. That didn't fix it, its gotten progressivly worse now, so I pulled the plugs and wires... seemed to be ok... any ideas?

Thanks for the help.

Ok, the only really applicable detail here is that its a 420a. But sure: 95 Talon 5 speed, CAI and exhaust.

I'm sure that some of the more experienced people will chime in shortly, but I would definitely suggest replacing the plugs. If that does not help, change your fuel filter. Going down the list of your basic maintenance checkpoints is definitely where to start.

I agree, the plugs and wires are a good place to start.

Yeah, its wierd... i have like no acceleration when its doing the putt putt thing, just like rapid little bursts not like the smooth exhuast sound I usually have. I'll run out tomorrow and buy some plugs and wires... any recomendations?

My $0.02 would be to initially purchase some 'Joe Blow' brand plugs and wires just to see if they get rid of the problem. That way if they do fix the problem, you can go out and purchase a good set of plugs and wires, such as NGK/Magnecore. If the problem is not fixed, you will not be out much money.

No, do not buy some off brand plugs. Get NGK's, you can pick them up at most auto stores (Napa, etc). When plugs are fouled they can make your car putt, putt. It happened to me.

Should I use any range cooler then stock? or leave it?

For the plugs and wires, dont' worry about running the NGKs as we do (Unless you car is currently boosted). Test the plusg with whatever you like for now just to see if that works.

It sounds like it coudl be a few things. Test for spark in all 4 cyl, and also think about anythign fuel related. Maybe now is as good a time as any to replace the Fuel Filter.
