Okay, I've been posting up a lot lately but I just have too many unanswered questions and problems. I guess that's to be expected of a dsm owner right? Anyways, all my rotors on my 96 Eclipse GST are bad. I mean really bad. The whole car wobbles when I brake. Not so much at a low speed braking but at a higher speed, feels like the car is going to fall apart. The car is used for daily driving and maybe a little fun here and there during the weekends.
I'm just wondering since I'm going to be needing new rotors, what do you guys suggest I get?
Powerslots are the best for front, not cheap but they hold up pretty good. The rears usually aren't too bad and some stockers would be fine if they are warped. It is probably just the fronts. You have the little rotors in front like the early 1g's.

Depends on what you want?
If you want upgraded rotors / bigger rotors, there's plenty out there. I think one guy here was selling aem big brake upgrade set, unsure who. Those are discontinued I think. Or those Baer ones seem nice / look really nice. My friend has those. Or else you could just get the brembo oem rotor upgrades. That way, you don't need to get new rims to fit them (pending on size).

The cheap option is to get them turned.
1. Put the car on blocks
2. Take the wheels off
3. Remove calipers with bracket attached, do not try to take the calipers completely off the car, because this involves getting brake fluid everywhere and then bleeding the system. Instead take the caliper(with bracket) and suspend it with a couple heavy duty zip ties from your suspension.
4. Inspect the pads, if you are going for super budget mode, you can keep your old ones, but if you know someone with a parts discount (ahem) you can get pads for really cheap
5. Remove the rotors (if its rusty, be careful to NOT HIT THEM WITH A HAMMER)
6. Bring them in to Goodyear maple grove one of these saturdays and I can hook you up with some turnage for dirt cheap, or parts trade. I will turn them and inspect them.
OTHER THINGS YOU MAY WANT TO KEEP IN MIND:
rotors do not go bad on their own, usually a siezed caliper is to blame, your car is geting old, and your calipers may be in need of replacement.
If your rotors are worn down EXTREMELY then they cannot be turned for safety reasons.
ALTERNATIVE: Buy 4 remaned calipers(after core) $2-300, plus rotors $100 and SS braded lines $90
So for $4-500 you can have a mint setup.
The worst thing is when you buy new rotors and pads to have them warp due to a caliper thats broken.
end rant/I hate DSM brakes

Rotors do go bad on their own. It is called wear.
On a DD you are "almost" always able to turn them, as long as they are in spec. If they are even near spec you are better off going to the parts house and buying some new blanks as well as some new pads if you dont want to sand them.
On a brake job rotors either need to be turned or replaced, end of question. If it sees light duty braking (ie. DD) just turn them. If it is your beloved DSM, replace them unless you just recently did and they just got rusty from the jackstands.:D

my apologies, as far as I know, there are 3 kinds of bad:
1. Rotors are warped. - Caused from overheating and/or exposure to H20 while hot. This is fixable unless:
2. Rotors are worn - Worn rotors work great, until they reach the air vents (which does happen!!!!) At this point they are in dire need of replacement! - Being too thin(warn) is dangerous too, so we read from a book the minimal safety thickness before we turn anything.
3. Rotors are F%ckewd - Usually to a siezed rotor, one side is rusty, spotted and or carved beyond understanding.
Advice: put your car on blocks, take the rotors off (you are gonna have to do this anyways) and bring em in, let me take a look at em, I am not an expert, but I can probably figure out whats going on/what can be done.
THanks for putting up with my first DRUNKEN post, this has taken me an hour or so to type, for its my birthday and my friends have grown tired of my drunkenness, (they WANTED to get me drunk for my B-day)
