IC piping question

Not long ago i read on here or another site about someone wanting to use PVC piping that you use in construction for intake piping. I remember the idea being considered "Bad" by a few people due to the fact the pipes build up static like crazy.

Am i remembering this corectly or is there another reason for not using it? I"m not sure how the pipe will hold up to the heat, so i'm gona get some hose to clamp it down and try it out soon. Preped the right length pipes, put a bead of JB weld around the outside of the pipe to help hold.

Let me know if anyone has some input... tryin to figure out if this will be my next mod, or if i'm just wasting pipe.

You are one ghetto mofo... Just buy some SS autochrome intercooler and piping kit for less than $200 and call it a day. PVC would work fine but how are you going to put a BOV on it? PVC can handle 200psi no problem, some even up to 450psi. I know quite a few people who use it to route air piping for their air compressors and it seems to work just fine. Just might not get that hot.

It's not that i'm a "gheto mofo" it's that i'm a broke one, and want to get the car ready for a race coming up soon. Gona try running out to Rockfalls to race two chevy trucks. One's a 350 with a stage 2 cam, cat-back and rest stock. Other is a chevy big block with ram air, full exauhst, lightweight driveshaft and a 50 shot of NOS. Only thing i can hope for is a nice launch and to keep a slight lead on him.

Till i get the money for the good stuff. It will have to do. I may just ground them out, just to be safe. I remember they don't react well with electricity. But, i found out they hold up to 275 PSI at 80* F and can withstand heat up to about 300*... So here's hoping they don't melt!!! Gona leave the stock intake pipes in the trunk. Just in case.

Leave it stock so people dont think you are retarted when you go through tech inspection. Stock will work just fine for any power you plan on running.

I'm the only tech on the vehicle, and no one looks under the hood. I was thinking of painting them black, so it doesn't look so crappy.

As for why i'm doing it, one of the pipes has a crack about 1 inch running down the pipe, and it's still holding presure. But one more 16psi boost spike and i'll have an un-fixable boost leak. I'm not looking to make a show car, i want to make it as fast as possible for as cheap as possible.

Febo is shipping in parts and as they come, they will be installed. 16g, suspension and supra side mount are on the top of the list.

What are you talking about? Your the only tech on the vehicle?

When to go to rockfalls, you have to go through tech inspection to make sure your car is capable of making it down the track safely. The inspector opens the hood, checks things inside the engine bay and other safety issues on the exterior of the car. People are usually walking around the pits looking at all the cars getting inspected.

Also, how are you going to get the couplers to hold onto the PVC?

NO PVC!!! Yuck, keep your stock piping if that's what you can afford. You can buy used decent shit for so cheap these days, it's not worth ghetto fabbing some home toilet plumbing crap. Painting it black would only make it worse. The stock piping isn't that bad, look elsewhere for more power, like more boost with no knock. Tuning is the key, your stock turbo can only flow so much air.

To straighten things out, here's a quick rundown on what's going on. RFebo(think that's his name on here) owned the car, but is curently off to boot camp in Oregon or Cali. So, while he's gone i repair and own the car. When he gets back, the car goes back into his name, and i just help him work on it. While he's over there, he'll ship out parts as he can. 16g is first on the list and should be coming shortly after the end of the month(knock on wood). Untill then, the car is in the hands of a broke, resourceful driver. I know, it's gona look dumb, but it's going to work better then the stocks.

For those that didn't catch it. I"m about 1 launch away from having a 1 inch cut in the hoses. Last time we had it apart someone cut the hose almost all the way through. It's about 2 inches from the coupling to the TB and i can see the indentation on the inside of the pipe when i shine a flash light down there. Not long before it goes. PCV is free and in my hands. In the process of installing just the upper pipe from the BOV to the TB and gona run it around for around 10 minutes to see how it holds.

I'm not worried about that guy, he thinks his neon(95) could own the car because it's "AWD". I"m more worried about the other guy. His buddy with the chevy big block. He's suposedly taken a WRX and an SRT-4. I expect to lose, but i'm not going down without a launch. But a 1 inch slash in the IC piping will really put a damper on that.
