Well I recently ordered rod and main bearings from Checker Auto. I was reading somewhere that you should get them from Mitsu because they are different depending on build date and VIN number. Is this true, and if so how the hell am I going to find the VIN number for the block I got out of a '95 Galant in Arkansas???

Thanks!

Shouldn't the VIN be on the block?

Have you even checked to see what size bearings you are going to need?!? Mitsu's are usually recommended because they come in multiple sizes. Clevite's are a standard size. If your crank is ground you must use aftermarket. You may have just made a big mistake.

Crank is stock. I ordered standard Clevite 77's... How do I check what size I need? I just figured standard size for a stock block and crank.

From what I have heard though the 2G's have a range of different sizes depending on year and VIN #...But then why would checker only list one part number???

2Gs can have multiple different size bearings on the same crank. You have measure the journals or look for marking on the old bearings.

Start reading up on plastigage. If you don't know what that is, then you really shouldn't be building an engine. Take that thing to Elite or QPR and get it done right!

Jet Jet Jet, you have no faith...Kyle is building my engine along with his and dave's. Dave's shortblock would be together if his crank was in spec, and Kyle's pistons are almost in. He knows what plastigauge is and how to use it. He built my brother's motor, which runs perfectly. So I have faith in him, hopefully it works out!

As for the bearings, that is just stupid. I guess I will have to call mitsu and talk to them about it...

I don't know if the 2.4 block has the same interchangeable bearing setup as the 2G DSMs. You might get lucky and they are just one size. You'll probably have to mic the main journals to make sure what you've got.
