I think my trannt shift fork went out because my 3rd and 4th gear do not work. I found a tutorial on how to take out the tranny and take it apart.

I was just wondering if anyone knew if I could get the tranny internals to do the trany myself to save money and what I would want to fix on it.

I havn't done one before, but I have heard from some people that they are hard to do. I would probably send it away for a rebuild.

Yea, fucking with the tranny is stupid unless you know what you are doing; it's just not worth it, who knows, you may end up fucking yourself even if someone helps you out. I've never done more to a tranny then fixing it so that 5th gear doesn't pop out anymore when you floor it in that gear.

If you were me would you look for a used fwd 2g tranny or would you beef this one up. Is it really that hard to do the tranny yourself if you can find the parts?

Well, it all depends on how much money you have to drop. Obviously beefing up the one you have would be the way to go, but it's not going to be as cheap as getting a used tranny. I'd try to figure out just how much fixing the one you have now is and go from there.

You will get much better results from a professionally rebuilt tranny than trying to do it yourself.

I was in this same position a few years ago. I took my transmission apart and got overwhelmed with everything. You NEED a hydraulic gear puller if want to rebuild the transmission yourself.

Good luck finding a good shop in MN. I first went to TSI in richfield. They wanted $4000 to replace the 1st/2nd syncro and hub/slider; nothing else would be replaced. The transmission was already apart and it was probably no more than $100 worth of parts and 6 hours of labor (max).

I sent the transmission to Jon and Ming and TRE. Two weeks later I recieve a FULLY rebuild transmission with upgraded parts for $1100. You will be much better off going to TRE or shep.

How is the tranny holding up for you? let me who of TRE or Shep you would lean to for cost?
