I need to replace the axle seal on the passenger side of my tranny. Will this method of removing the axle work?

Sounds like it would. I would suggest just separating the lower ball joint though. That way you dont have to worry about changing anything with your alignment.

I dont think that will work you are going to need to undo one of the ball joints. With just taking the strut bolts out wouldnt do much. The hub will still be attached to the upper control arm and lower arms and will not move out of the way to remove the axle. What I have always done is remove the upper balljoint(its easier then the lower) the caliper and the lower strut(wishbone)bolt maybe even the tie rod but I cant remember.

That method is for a 1G, 2G's use a different strut that does not hold the wheel in place. What I found to be the easyiest method to pull the axle with no air tools is to remove the bolt through the wish bone, remove the bolt holding the front lower controll arm on, and remove the two bolts holding the rear controll arm on. This method dosn't require seperating any ball joints, and has little effect on the alignment.

9guy9 wins this one. Not possible on the 1g, but save for the 6 bolts that hold on that tranny cover on, I yanked the axel out of the tranny by removing 4 bolts:
-wishbone from the strut to the lower control arm
-front lower control arm point
-2x holding on the rear lower control arm point

Start to finish an hour and a half, and I'm a weak, wussy computer geek! :)

Thanks again to all that posted helpful hints.
