As some of you may know, I've been wanting to sell my DSM. Why? Well, that is a question I'm asking myself. If I did sell it, I'd just end up buying yet another DSM. And if that happens, the first thing I will do is get a Shep "Stage 3" tranny, and do up all the other drivetrain things.
The thing is, when I think about doing all of that... I'll still have a stock, but more reliable car. I think about... what if I just took... a tiny loan... and did all that to my current car? That is: the Shep stage 3, some dyno tuning time, and some suspension. I'd probably not want to sell it. So what the hell am I thinking? Any thoughts? And I know pretty much modding cars is a horrible investment; investment is the WORST word to use. I'm just in stupid situation. I'm not happy with my car because its not as nice as I want it. Call me retarded, but I'd almost be happier with a flawless mostly stock DSM, as compared to the one I have now. That'd be a car I'd like to keep for maybe my lifetime (scary I know), but then I could mod it "just right" as money became available. I don't know, I'm rambling but I don't know what to do! Part of me just wants to get out of DSMs while I can...

I say keep bitch. Put every option you can think of out there and go for whichever one will put a smaile on your face. I mean seriously some people on here want to have the perfect 1G or 2G right now. They buy used parts over and over, break a few things, sell it, get another on, rinse and repeat. I don't even own a DSM anymore and my next ride will be a 3S. But I know for a fact I will have a DSM again. I love the cars, but I know you just can't rely on the standard practice's these days of junk yard hunting for replacement parts and buying a parts car in case something on your car breaks.

When something breaks, buy new or re-man parts. Do you think gusy like Shep put anything but trusted new parts on their cars? Not a chance. And no, you won't have the resources to do everything someone like Shep or even a average shop owner might do. Well the fact is you do have every opportunity to put the right parts in a car the right time. And if you drive it right, care for it right, it will last. When a tie rod goes out don't reach for the neared junk yard replacement. Get new and get another 75k miles out of it, instead of 5k miles.

yeah, just take it slow, do the improvements as you can, and in a couple years you will have that car that you want to keep forever. Then you can paint it, and do all that other stuff that gets put on the back burner.

I am kind of in the same boat with my honda. I am modding it, but at the same time, I am tying up all the loose ends of the stuff that I have been meaning to do for the last couple summers. The car is already way better than it was last summer, and I just got back into town last week, so imagine what you could do with a couple years...

You know what I wish? I wish that you would only use one period after a sentence. And while your at it there is this is this really cool button that you can hit with your pinky fingers called a fucking shift key, use it.

Swifty the same above applies to you as well. You should know better.

This isn't a teenage chat room.

What the hell is this thread about anyway. Everybody hates their DSM 80% of the time. Everytime you break something or think of modding it more, just have someone kick you right in the nuts. Same result will follow for each.

Keep it, tune it, and then move on to some other part of the car to beef up. You have a nice motor/turbo setup, now save for a while and trick out the suspension, then save up for the tranny, etc. If it makes you feel better, do a bit of each at a time. Start off with a rear swaybar for that thing, they're less than $200 and you'll LOVE what it does to the car! Get a cheap strut-tower bar too, if you do not have one already.

Just one thing at a time, that's the only way to really get to the car you *really* want. Selling it & getting a new one is usually only putting off upgrading what you already have, and typically a grass-is-greener scenario.

I ultimatly sold my 1G because of a $500 issue. I sold it when I bought my 2G, which not only cost more, but I ended up dumping probably $2500 into over the first 30 days I owned the damn thing (rewiring this and that, FMIC+TialBOV install on day 4 of ownership, s-afc, injectors, etc). Month #2 I ended up yanking the motor/tranny for a clutch job, re-did the timing belt job, new water pump, balance shaft delete, etc...WHY didn't I just keep my 1G?!!?!?! I love my 2G, but sometimes I *really* wish I would have just fixed the issues with my 1G and kept it longer!

craig, it was a drawn out statement. If you heard me actually say it, you'd get why the periods. They represent pauses.

I have had the same DSM, since day one of being a DSMer. I have had the urge to sell and switch car manufactures more than once, but I’m glad that I have my 1G. I do plenty of preventive maintenance and every summer it has been a reliable “daily” driver. Not to say that it doesn’t brake, but anything I drive, will brake because I will beat on it sometimes. But for the cost of the car and what it is, I still have fun and still can beat up on other performance cars. I know I don’t have the fastest car in the DSM community, but I like to balance reliability with power. And for a DSM I think I have done O.K.
So I say keep the car, make it fast but keep it reliable, YES it is possible for a DSM to be reliable. I think we all know that. DSMs break because they are pushed to hard and because most are getting old, so put a lot of new parts in them and don’t drive it like you stole it when you are just going to the store for milk.
