I'm putting in clean spark plugs and letting the car run, then it eventually dies (10-15 min of idling) and I pulled the plugs to find massive carbon build up AND signs of detonation. I have no idea where to address this problem. Signs of detonation and carbon are complete opposites.

1 and 4 are full of carbon ( didn't see any detonation ). Both 2 and 3 aren't firing. I tried two different coil packs. I've tried 3 different ECU's and have the same problems.

when you are letting it run are you running it normaly or are you flooring it? Is it bogging down? what does the engine do before it dies. weird that it is doing both but maybe it gets filled up with carbon and then detonates.

It was the power transistor. I haven't checked my plugs again yet but she was driven for about 20 miles today and didn't have any troubles staying alive. I have an oil leak that's getting all over my timing belt though. Probably the oil pump area again. Haven't even gotten 50 miles and already need a new timing belt =/
