trans.shifts hard?

i'm looking at a 91'talon tsi 5spd and the guy said that the trans shifts hard.
he said the cluch needs to be adjusted/replaced.

is there a way to figure out if it is the cluch,or if the trans is going out??

If it's a pedal / engagement issue - address the clutch / slave / master. If it's actually a "going into gear / removing it from a gear " look more into the transmission.
