I'm trying to configure my stock GSX wheels with some tires. Two of them are shot. I'm looking at purchasing all 4. Stock calls for 215/50/17. I can get a good deal on some 225/45/17. As a matter of fact my car came with 215/45/17.

Can I get the 225/45/17? Will the difference from 215 to 225 be ok as far as the rim goes? I'm not a tire expert.

Thanks.

I have 225/40/18 and they fit perfectly. So Im sure that the 17s will be fine. and the 225 will fit on the rim just fine.

I had 225/45-17 tires on my '97-99 GSX wheels and they fit perfectly; this is the size most people upgrade to since not much is available in 215/50-17.

A 225/45/17 is the proper "up size" for the factory 215/50/17. It will be damn near the same diameter so the speedo and odo wont be off by much and you get an extra 10mm in width.

9guy9 on here runs that size on his 96 TSi AWD with zero probelms.

Yup, I'm running 225/45-17 tires.

Thanks for your input as well. This is soley for running at the track. My Racing Hart 19" are just too heavy for the strip. I think I can reduce my et going from 19 down to 17's.

If this is soley for track use I would even go with 235/45/17.
