Well the good news I have for today is that I finally figured out why my car was throwing the Crank Angle Sensor code. Bad news: Took my timing cover off and the belt was definitely broke. So looks like the refurbished motor I bought the Auto Value wasn't exactly worth the 2500$. Got a whole 25k miles on this one before it broke. So anyway, looks like I have a new project!

Don't ignore typical dsm problems and you won't run into shit like this.

Timing belt needs to be changed at or prior to 60k intervals. If you get an engine and aren't 100% positive as to when it was changed last, change the damn thing. For less than 200 dollars and a few hours of your time, you coulda saved yourself over 2k.

Timing belts don't break for no reason. If it was changed right before you got it, it was either way too tight, you had oil leaks, or it was flat out not changed. Some people just replace the belt itself. That's completely stupid. It's usually a pully that screws up and throws the belt.

So basically just an FYI. Change your timing belts religiously so you can avoid this mess in the future. I am happy that you are deciding to get back at it and not just give up like some pussies. So congratulations for that. I don't mean to sound like a prick but this is a common problem and people just don't get it so I feel the need to attempt to make it very clear. Good luck on your future motor.

Well I bought the motor as a completely remanufactered unit from Motor Supply, So everything was brand new. Didn't think it needed a timing belt yet at 25,000 miles, but what can ya do. I understand where your coming from though. I"m probably going to be changing the belt on my other dsm here in the near future as well.

Most re-mans come with a 3yr/36k mi. warranty. I am sure you have checked but is this covered?

Well my Dad's still looking for the paperwork, but I'm pretty sure it was only a 2yr/20k or 24k mile warranty. But I guess we'll see once we find everything.

Even if it is out of warranty you can contact them and argue a bit if need be (be as nice as possible, don't blame them or yell at them). They probably won't give you a completely new unit, but a discount or free labor isn't unheard of. Worth a shot, the worst they can do is say no.

Did it break, as in tore apart or did it just slip off? It sound like they used a belt from NAPA or something. OEM definately has the best quality when it comes to the T-Belt.

My friend recently got a job at the place I bought it from so I'm planning on going there and trying to find out if there is anything I can do about it.

The belt just snapped. It showed no signs of abnormal wear or anything of that kind. Guess it was either a cheap or a defective belt.

Well after thinking for a while, I've decided that I'm going to build the 6-bolt block I have in my garage with an eagle/wiseco combo along with rebuilding the head currently on my car. Anyone know of a reputable machine shop that can build this for me at a reasonable price in the lower half of minnesota? I don't currently have the cash but that will come soon hopefully. Thanks

LSE or DB in the Twin Cities, they are sponsors of this board and know their stuff when it comes to DSM's.
