I have a first gen Hallman MBC.

I contacted Hallman and had him send me an upgraded spring. I received it today. It doesn't appear any different than the one I took out. The stiffness & length is identical. I put something in the nozzle and then went to a digital scale, the ball breaks open at about 5 1/2 lbs of weight against it. Does that mean that if I have the PTE 18lbs wastegate actuator, that i'm only good for 23 1/2 lbs??? Or is 5.5 psi & 5.5lbs totally different?

Hallmans sites says for example that if you have a 10lb actuator and your MBC is set for a 2 psi differential, that you will have 12 psi of boost.

I can't figure out WTF is going on here. These are supposed to be good for 30psi.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Think about what a psi is, a pound per square inch. If you have an inch, that would be a bound. Do you think that little ball in there is close to a square inch of surface area?? I would guess more like .25 in^2. Which would put your crude little test at 22psi. I would put the accuracy of your test at + or - 30 psi :D

5.5 psi and 5.5 lbs. of weight are two completely different measurements, first off, the ball does not have a square-inch of surface area. Put the boost controller on your car and find out.

Ya, i sorta should of knew better than to ask. I think my test was more so to compare the 2 springs in which the two were nearly alike.

When i raced last year, I was staying in 3rd thru the traps (not good) and reving to about 8250. My powerband was probably was dropping substantially somewhere after 7500 thus making it appear as though I had a boost leak.
