Alright, when i bought my timing belt kit the guy sent me a few pages out of the service manual on changing it.

As i was reading, i noticed the part where it was listing the service mileage..
and it said..

"For 1995-97 vehicles, the manufacturer recommends the belt be replaced every 60k, except in california. timing belt replacement is recommended but not required at 60k, in california replace the belt at 100,000 miles unless previously changed"

whats the difference between cars in cali and cars in the rest of the states, besides emissions.. but how does that effect how long the timing belt lasts.

I think this might have to do with the climate differences. since we have a bunch of crap on our roads from winter and such, and CA doesn't. I think that would affect the life of a belt.

Well if the weather conditions are the case, then why would it be only CA cars? that's not the only warm weather state in the country
