I'm having some weird issues with my clutch pedal I think, but the actual clutch has only 5000 miles on it and the tranny only has 3000 miles on it. I'll bleed the hell out of the clutch and it'll be fine for a few days, but then it gets soft again. And now it even feels like it's kind of slipping. Also, while driving, when I try to shift sometimes it won't go into gear for a few seconds. I've tried adjusting the pedal rod but the same thing happens no matter how much I adjust it. So my question is, would this be the symptoms of a master cylinder going bad? The car is a 97 gsx, act 2600 clutch, resurfaced oem flywheel, shep rebuilt trans, mbc @ 15psi, catback exhaust.

i hear there is a restrictor in the slave cylinder that you might want to try taking out, but that shouldnt effect normal driving. Can you see any signs of leaking on the inside of the car where the master cylinder comes thru? or anything down by the slave cylinder. i would say you could be right, when mine went bad it was very similar

Look over the master cylinder and clutch-release (slave) cylinders and see if they look wet. I am not familiar with any sort of restrictor on the slave cylinder, 1G or 2G. Do you have a braided SS clutch line?

well i know the evo has a restrictor and was told that the 2g's have it as well but have never looked for it on a 2g.

Yea there is a restrictor in the slave on the 2g's, but I took it out a long time ago. There is no leakage around/by either cylinder as far as I can tell. I think I'm just going to go ahead and replace the master cylinder and go from there. Thanks everyone.

I don't have a braided SS clutch line, and that is actually the next item on my list. Will that make a world of difference?

Sounds to me like you have a bad master cyclinder. Change it out and see, its the first thing I would do with the symptoms you are having. Just because its 'new' doesn't mean anything. I have seen them right out of the box not working correctly.

Checker has them. Most auto parts stores will carry them. I got one from Checker for the Laser and it worked and held up great.

you could get a rebuild kit too, thats what i didi to mine since the only parts actually bad in mine was the resivouir block off, but if you want to try that you should take it apart and inspect it for wear and then make sure you have a hone available to clean it up a bit too

good luck
