I know this sounds bad, but its been a few months since the tear down, and I cant remember if this washer was infornt of the case or behind, but I know it was on the oil pump side.

thanks again

EDIT: looks like its behind, since I can see some of the old case gasket on the block..

On one side i noticed gear marks. It looks like on the picture, the washer was sittin in the rear balance shaft, infront of the oil pump housing. Is there a washer inbetween the front case and oil pump housing?

No. There is no washer between the front case and the oil pump housing. there is a metal cap that threads into the outside that you can gain access to the balance shaft mounting bolt, but there is no washer between the gears and any portion of the aluminum case.
