I pulled my old motor today to make way for the new one and look what I found!

Had that happen to my old engine. The dealer said they installed a new one, charged us for the installation and the new part, but never did. I was at about 60,000 on the timing belt in the beginning of spring thinking "I'll do my timing belt when the weather gets a little nicer out." Then BAMMMM!!!! The balance shaft belt broke, went under the timing belt, and made it skip. Wiped out the head.
Another reason why I won't let anyone work on my car unless I'm right there watching.

Lucky SOB.
I've seen that time and time again. Its about 50% dead head, 50% good head ratio.

Had it happen before also. The BS belt somehow ruined my axle though and didn't do anything to timing.

Yup, that happened to my 1G & I landed into that lucky 50%. All valves were fine. I was fed a story to. "yea, changed the timing belt!" Welp, I bought the car with 64k miles on it so I figured it was the truth. At 73k miles, I looked throught the paperwork, and it was *very* complete, and did not include a reciept for a timing belt job. I made plans to get it done and then BAM! I'm on my way into work one day and mu luck ran short.
I swear it's karma nipping you in the ass with this kind of stuff.
That is what happened to the Laser I just bought. B belt went then t belt went. Dealer covererd it for the previous owner when the car had ~60k on it. New 6-bolt short block and new head!
